Backlink data – necessary information for SEOers and Content Marketers like us who want to know what’s going on so that we can improve our stats and get more popular with the search engines.
In the past we’ve had access to Yahoo’s data tools (how kind of them) but not that Microsoft’s Bing and Yahoo merger things are changing.
Yep. Microsoft (Bing) is like Google.
They are taking away that lovely backlink data tool that Yahoo was kind enough to offer us because they really don’t want us to have that information either. (All powerful gods of the internet abusing their power? I think so.)
So what are we suppose to do to gather backlink data and stay on top of what we’re doing?
Well, there’s another free tool that has been around for a while but has be operating somewhat under the radar. Go ahead and Google (or Bing) magicseo and you’ll find them.
The downside of this being the only tool available to us right now (there may be others that just haven’t made themselves known yet – or the aren’t free. I’m all about keeping it low cost for my team so this is the one I know of at the moment.) is that it is slow to update.
You could be waiting for it for 2-6 weeks.
Not so great. But we’ll see what happens now that they are about to get really popular with article marketers and backlink-ers(?) all over the internet who are getting flushed away from Yahoo’s tools.
I just got wind of this tool this morning so I have only been experimenting with it for about a half an hour now, but the information is good, and I like what I see so far.
I feel fairly confident that these guys will up the performance of their tools to accommodate the needs of their new users. I’m not sure if they’ll ever start charging a fee for it, but let’s hope they are kind, like Yahoo was before the Yahoo/Bing merger and give us this information for free.
Now, on to a more educational note. Backlinking.
By definition we use backlinking to establish link popularity with the search engines. The more popular sites we are on with links pointing back to the site we want to get ranked by the search engines, the more likely it is that those all powerful “gods” of the online universe will give us a shot at page 1.
This part is for new article marketers.
You can’t simply write an article and put it on one site. You have to take more massive action than that to create link popularity through backlinking in a timely manner.
Find a really good mass article submission tool. Use a powerful call to action in your signature box, with a link or two pointing to your site(s), and get consistent with your money making activity.
It may seem like a lot of work, but I can tell you from personal experience that it’s worth it when you have thousands of visitors to your site every day after the “snowball effect” catches up with you.
Put in the time. You’ll only reap what you sow.
